Ginger Regrowth - Week 1
This week I have begun my first ever regrowth project, using a smaller piece of ginger to generate a new ginger plant. The ginger propagule that I purchased from a grocery store was 2½ inches wide and 1½ inches tall with at least 3 buds on it. The amount of buds on your propagule are supposedly critical for growth, so I made sure that the piece of ginger I used had a substantial amount of larger buds. Ginger regrowth is surprisingly simple, or so I may think at this point into the project. To start, I wrapped the ginger propagule in a wet paper towel and placed it in a Ziplock bag. After around ten days in the refrigerator, I am hoping that the ginger will show some growth and be ready for transplant. My piece of ginger has been refrigerated for about 3 days now and no growth has been seen yet, so hopefully I have no problems when I update you next week at the 10 day mark. I find the process of regrowth so fascinating and hope that my success in this project will inspire me to regrow using scraps of produce that I use in my everyday life.
Below is a picture of my ginger propagule and the ginger hidden in a bag ready for refrigeration.
