Riss' Hydroponic Garden
This week I attempted building a hydroponic system for my garden. This was my first time using a hydroponic system and not utilizing soil in my garden. I transplanted my lettuce peat pellet into the system and the process of creating it went pretty well. I've noticed that with each new step thrown into my gardening routine I have gotten anxious and overwhelmed, but it has typically ended up okay. It wasn't so much the system itself but more the assembly of it that challenged me. I didn't know how hard it would be to clean out and cut a plastic bottle! I think making holes in the bottle cap was the most challenging part as a thick cotton wick was to fit through it. That being said, once all of the holes and cuts were made, setting up my system was simple and I was so proud of myself once I completed it. The lettuce transplants look happy in their new coco coir home and I have placed them in a bright windowsill where they will hopefully thrive. I am amazed at how the cotton wick will be able to bring the nutrient solution up to the transplanted lettuce but am looking forward to seeing what happens.
Below you can see my new hydroponic system propped against my bright windowsill.
