Prepping for Winter!
Florida is finally feeling a chill in the air with Thanksgiving near, meaning it's time to start prepping for the end of my gardening season. My plants have not grown as well as I've hoped, but I have learned so much in these past few months that I know where I went wrong and how I could improve next time. My radishes, bell peppers, and basil plants have all grown slower than expected and will not be ready for harvest before the first frost. However, they still have the potential for harvest in the Spring so I am planning on keeping those plants alive throughout the winter. Because these crops are in containers, I will be using a frost blanket to cover my plants after sunset and keep them warm throughout the night. For my pole beans and onions that did not grow well these past few months, I will sadly give up on them and am planning on retrying to grow them in the Spring.
Below you can see my first prep for the Winter - a frost blanket! My frost blanket is made out of a pillowcase that I put over my containers, so it will keep my plants alive with heat from the soil when it gets COLD!
