The End is in Sight...and it's Not Pretty :(
So this is it...the end of a long journey. Honestly, I'm really disappointed with myself about how my plants have grown over the past 4 months and have been dreading this final update. I know that is a learning opportunity, and I already know what I would change as this was my first time planting seeds and taking care of plants EVER. So here's what happened:
My sprouts that took a week to harvest turned out great. Everything else...not so much. I am still holding out hope for my basil, but everything from pole beans to bell peppers did not survive as time passed. I was very attentive to watering my plants, but I had to move around my planters quite often with coming home for the holidays to bringing my plants from outdoor to indoors. These changes in lighting and location were not beneficial to my plants and I think that is the main issue as to why they did not thrive. I also mentioned in an earlier blog that my dog ate some of my pole bean leaves, and the plant did not survive. While all of the plants seemed to thrive in the first two months, the last half of the journey was a downhill one. Next time, I would focus on finding a permanent location where my plants can stay and not be accessible to pests.
Here are some pictures of my current plants. WARNING: it isn't a pretty sight. I would have included a picture of my harvested bean sprouts but of course, I ate them in a salad weeks ago and never took a picture! I'm not going to say I'm a failure...I am going to learn from my experiences and restart my garden in the Spring. One thing you can see on the left are scallions I have begun to regrow! It's an easier way to grow versus starting from a seed and I'm going to hone in on that for now.
